In the last post I teased a rough version of the cover for my next mini-comic, The Albatross, and now the final version is here. Peep it:
Everything is pretty much done, and it should be ready to go out sometime in October. Digital will come first, followed by a print version. I’ll shoot out some more details when it’s time!
Whooooaaaa, things have been busy lately! I check on the blog regularly, and it’s been tough to resist posting some of the stuff I’ve been working on, but I must! In lieu of actual content today, I thought I’d at least let you know that there’s some fun on the very near horizon.
First, I’ll be switching things up soon with a review of the latest movie from Kojiro Abe, AKA Jules Carrozza, Alison in Wonderland. It’s his first feature, and he’s been a long-time subject of this blog in both its current and previous incarnations, so i’ve been meaning to get my thoughts up on that. Much like the rabbit, I’M LATE.
I just finished up my second mini-comic after Slime (there are a few copies left of that!), so I’m hoping to get that printed and out in the wild sometime in early October. I still have to tone the pages and lay it out, but I recently shared a rough B&W version of the cover on Twitter and Instagram.
Also, in the interest of having more regular content for YOU, I’ll be starting a new webcomic soon. It’s going to be full-color and packed with action and jokes, but I’m not ready to formally announce it yet. Right now I’m in the process of finishing pages in advance so I’ll be able to keep consistent. I’ll just say you’ve seen the characters on the blog before…
I know I said I was going to practice all-digital more, but doing the Castlevania comic had me hankering to draw on paper. I ended up doing all of this one straight to ink with a brush pen on Tuesday night, then I added text with a pen the next day, scanned it in, and did the toning in Manga Studio.
Hey, a new comic! This one is another collaboration that had Wes Black (Two of a Vine) writing and me drawing. It was also my first real crack at doing everything digitally. I experimented with Manga Studio a couple other times in stuff like Film Punks, but now I’m really trying to get the hang of it and learn how to make it a faster and more satisfying process.
Here’s a quick self-indulgent post, which pretty much describes every post on a personal blog, I guess. Some of you may recall the Bloodborne comic I posted back in April. Well, I was just flipping through a sketchbook to get to a clean piece and I came across the original thumbnail for the first page of that one, so I thought I’d share it.
I don’t know if this is a good or bad thing, but this definitely shows how slavish I can be to a thumbnail once I’ve decided what layout to go with. I did the comic itself in ink (Micron pen, probably) on regular printer paper before scanning it and coloring it in Photoshop. Here’s a little before and after thumb vs. final for those interested.
I have no idea what I did with the second page thumb, or if I even made one!
